INTERVIEW: MR. JUNE 2018, DEWAYNE KEETON

Mr. June is coming in hot! Meet DeWayne Keeton from South Adams Fire. DeWayne is a returning alumnus from the 2014 Calendar AND is back for second time!

DeWayne always wanted a job that where he could help people and not do the same mundane tasks every day. Being a firefighter allows him to do both. He joined the fire service in January of 2011 as a volunteer firefighter. In February 2014 he was hired by South Adams Fire Department as a full-time firefighter. As of May 2017, we can now call him Lieutenant Keeton.

DeWayne’s favorite part of being in the 2014 Calendar was meeting burn survivors at the Children’s Hospital Colorado Burn Camp, in Estes Park. “It was a great experience and allowed me to see where the money raised goes. Hopefully, later this year I will get to attend the burn camp for a second time.”

How does Dewayne keep in shape? He workouts pretty regularly, 3-4 days a week. He is not on a strict diet. It’s all about portion control and being responsible. “I definitely make sure to sneak in a Taco Bell run a few times a month.”

Who inspires DeWayne? “Both of my parents are my heroes. They have supported me the entire time I have been involved in the fire service. The people who inspire me the most are the people who I come in contact with at work. A majority of the time I see people on their worst day, so I want to do whatever I can to help them out.”

Why did DeWayne join CFC? DeWayne, was approached in 2014 by a CFC board member with an application to try out for the Calendar. Later that evening he did his research on what the Calendar was about. He was so impressed and felt that the money raised was going to a great cause, so he decided to give it a whirl.  Here he is back at again for his second round. “It was such a great experience my first time in 2014 and I truly believe in the Colorado Firefighter Calendar’s mission, it was a no brainer on why I tried out a second time.”

To those who are on the fence about buying a Calendar… DeWayne would tell you “not to think about the Calendar but to think about where the money is going to and who it’s going to help.”
