Get To Know Corey Carter – 2017 Calendar Cover
As we near the end of another banner year, we wanted to feature Colorado Firefighter Calendar’s 2017 cover firefighter, Corey Carter. Corey began his firefighting career as a volunteer for four years, served Brighton Fire for three years, and recently made the move to Boulder Fire.
He explains why he wanted to become a firefighter, “I have always been an individual that took the time to help others and have been a part of teams all my life. The fire department gives me both of these on an entirely different level that I cannot even begin to describe.”
Corey became interested in the Colorado Firefighter Calendar organization to give back to kids and make a positive impact on their lives. He realizes the mental and physical pain they have endured through their injuries. He wanted to be able to give them something to make their lives better whether it be through their Burn Camp experience or simply by putting a smile on their face during visits to Children’s Hospital Colorado.
His favorite memory of his time with CFC is his experience at Burn Camp. Being at Burn Camp and interacting with the kids put it all into perspective for him. Corey mentioned that the feeling was overwhelming to see the kids overcome their burn injuries and fears.
Corey’s main goal for 2017 is to hike ten 14ers this upcoming summer! It should be easy since his favorite hobbies include traveling, enjoying the outdoors, fishing, hiking, and camping.
His heroes are his parents. He credits them for making him the strong and goal-oriented person he is today. He states that “They have taught me so much and have helped me through the good times and bad. I am forever thankful for them.”
We are grateful to have Corey in our upcoming 2017 Colorado Firefighter Calendar as the cover because he embodies the great qualities of a firefighter and community service leader.
